Are you Working From Home?

Writer: Jason ShortJason Short

Updated: Feb 27

In recent years many people have been asked to work from home. The result of this is we are using more home expenses such as electric and gas.

It is unlikely that your payroll provider has altered your pay over the period to adjust for home expenses, so you can now claim a flat rate fee yourself that will go against your tax. Claiming the relief is easy, and this year you are entitled to claim £6 per week or £26 per month (£4 per week, or £18 per month before 6 April 2020).

If you are a higher rate taxpayer, it will mean an extra £124.80 in your pocket.
