Short and Sons Accountants was founded by Jason Short in 2017 to help self-employed London taxi drivers and small business owners save time, money, and stress on their tax returns.

From our office in Staines-upon-Thames (TW18), we’ve grown from our first few clients in Christmas 2017 to now serving over 700 small businesses and landlords across Surrey, Middlesex, and the South of England. Our mission is simple — to make every client’s interaction with HMRC fast, frictionless, and affordable, while delivering a genuinely personal service from a trusted local team.

 

Our Story

Founded in the summer of 2017, Short and Sons Accountants in Staines has earned a reputation for professionalism, efficiency, and transparency. We pride ourselves on providing personal, face-to-face support while keeping accounting costs fair.

Our growing on-site accounting team includes highly qualified professionals with decades of combined experience in Self Assessment, bookkeeping, payroll, and limited company accounts.

 

Meet Our Professional Team

Jason Short – Founder & Director
Jason has delivered thousands of Self Assessment tax returns to HMRC since establishing Short and Sons. Educated at Isleworth and Syon School and West Thames College, Jason later studied the AAT syllabus and is a certified partner with FreeAgent, Xero, and QuickBooks. He now oversees client onboarding, invoicing, advertising, and workflow management, ensuring every client receives an exceptional experience.

 

Lewis Chapman – Self-Assessment Specialist
Lewis joined as our first employee in 2022 after graduating in Accounting from Brunel University. He quickly became our Self Assessment guru, helping streamline operations and support hundreds of clients. Lewis is certified in FreeAgent, QuickBooks, and Xero, and continues to uphold our mission of saving clients time and money while delivering outstanding results.

 

Roger Spice – Senior Bookkeeping Expert
With over 45 years of experience, Roger has witnessed the evolution of accounting from paper-based to cloud-based systems. He’s proficient with Sage, FreeAgent, QuickBooks, Xero, and Hubdoc, making him our go-to expert for accurate, efficient bookkeeping and record-keeping.

 

Terry Obika – Xero and Limited Company Accounts Specialist
Terry joined in March 2025 with 15 years of industry experience and an AAT qualification. As our in-house Xero specialist, he manages limited company accounts and brings valuable experience from several London accountancy firms.

 

Caroline Johnson – Payroll and QuickBooks Bookkeeper
Caroline joined our team in July 2025 and manages payroll and bookkeeping using QuickBooks. With over 20 years of experience, her calm professionalism and positive attitude make her an integral part of our supportive on-site team.
